Academic Direction of the Quebec Interuniversity Center for Social Statistics (CIQSS)

The Quebec Interuniversity Centre for Social Statistics (QICSS) offers all Quebec researchers access to detailed Statistics Canada data, as well as the space, equipment and professional and technical resources required to exploit these data. The QICSS also provides support for the next generation of researchers, through training and scholarship programs, and organizes numerous events to promote the visibility and impact of the results of research projects carried out in its five secure laboratories.

The QICSS is seeking an Academic Director to oversee and guide the Center’s academic activities. The Academic Director plays a key role in promoting health and social science research, facilitating access to data and supporting innovative research projects. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead, in collaboration with the Governance Board and Executive Management, the development, implementation and evaluation of the QICSS’s strategic orientations;
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with the research community, government agencies, statistical agencies and funding bodies;
  • Identify new collaboration and partnership opportunities to strengthen QICSS’s reach and impact;
  • Lead the development of grant applications and oversee evaluations by granting agencies;
  • Represent the QICSS in promotional and communication activities;
  • Represent the QICSS on the Board of Directors, Academic Council and Executive Council of the Canadian Research Data Centre Network (CRDCN).

The ideal candidate for this position will meet the following criteria:

  • Be a faculty member attached to a QICSS member institution;
  • Significant research experience, with in-depth knowledge of statistical methodologies and the use of large social or health data sets;
  • A proven track record of obtaining major research grants from various funding agencies, demonstrating an ability to write compelling and competitive applications;
  • Demonstrate project management and inter-institutional coordination skills;
  • Excellent communication skills in both French and English;
  • An established network of academic and research institutions.
  • Entry into function on June 1, 2025, preceded by a period of integration and transition with the current academic management to ensure a smooth transfer of responsibilities;
  • The term of office is four years, with the possibility of renewal;
  • A private office is available at the QICSS, located at 3535 Queen-Mary, Suite 420, Montreal.

The QICSS Academic Director is appointed by the Governance Board. A selection sub-committee is responsible for evaluating applications and proposing a candidate to the Governance Board for approval.
